THE ESSENTIALS

Your first wellness retreat: what to expect

Make the first day easier by knowing the rhythm, practical arrangements and choices in advance.

Before you arrive

Request a sample schedule, packing guidance and the documents needed for the particular programme. Let the provider know about accessibility needs, dietary requirements and anything that may affect participation. Use the provider’s secure process for sensitive records.

The first conversation

A programme-led stay will usually involve discussion of priorities, but the process differs between providers. Ask when your itinerary becomes final and who can adjust it. Keep your aims simple enough that the team can explain what the stay can realistically provide.

A day with some space

It is easy to overbook when a retreat has a large treatment menu. Leave time between sessions for meals, rest and reflection. Discuss the balance of private appointments, group activity and unstructured time rather than treating free time as a gap to fill.

Know what is optional

Clarify which parts of the schedule are required, which can be changed and which involve extra cost. Ask how to raise a concern if a treatment, activity or pace does not feel suitable. You should understand what you are agreeing to.

Before departure

Collect the information that helps you follow through: recommendations, any relevant reports, named contacts and booked follow-up. If assessments were involved, ask who will explain results that are not available before you leave.
