PLANNING YOUR STAY

What does a luxury wellness retreat cost?

Compare the full cost of the stay, including the program, accommodation and the details outside the headline rate.

Start with the total

A room rate, a program fee and an inclusive retreat price can describe very different purchases. Ask for a quote covering the same dates and number of guests. The total should make clear whether meals, consultations, treatments, taxes and transfers are included.

Private programs work differently

SENSES offers one- or two-week Personal Retreat and Family & Friends Retreat formats. In Zurich, CHF 70,000 per week covers the villa and one program participant, with CHF 35,000 per week for each additional participant. Two participants total CHF 105,000 per week. Confirm the Mallorca fee and currency separately; the proposal confirms the scope. Children may accompany the stay without an additional accommodation charge; childcare, separate children’s programs, and other guest or external arrangements are agreed separately. That is a different model from booking a room and adding spa treatments.

Compare time and access

Calculate what the program provides: individual appointments, shared classes, facility access, meals and accommodation. Resort credit is a spending allowance, not an unlimited treatment plan. Check which bookings use it and whether unused credit expires.

Ask for the overlooked items

Airport transfers, laboratory work, medication, off-site appointments, premium treatments, companions and continuing support can change the total. Ask about currency, deposits, cancellation and the cost of extending or shortening the stay. Request answers before a non-refundable commitment.

Avoid unsupported price comparisons

Published offers change, and different room types can make similar-looking prices misleading. Except where a provider publishes a clear starting rate, our profiles direct you to request current pricing. A higher price does not by itself establish better outcomes.

Why luxury retreat prices are difficult to compare

Luxury wellness retreats sell different combinations of accommodation, professional time and hospitality. A nightly room price might cover breakfast and access to a spa. A residential program may combine meals, consultations, activities and selected assessments. An exclusive private stay may reserve a residence and organize an individual team. These are different services, even when each uses the word wellness.

The first task is therefore to identify what the quotation describes. Is it a room, a room plus a program, a per-person package, or an individually scoped private arrangement? Ask whether the quoted number covers the whole booking or only one component. Avoid comparing a resort’s entry room rate with the total fee for a private program.

Build a complete budget before choosing dates

Start with accommodation and the program itself. Then add travel, transfers, meals outside the package, optional treatments, investigations, personal purchases and any continuing support you expect to use. Keep a separate allowance for changes rather than quietly treating every additional service as part of the advertised price.

The practical benefit of this exercise is clarity, not precision to the last unit of currency. Some services cannot be finalized until the suitability review is complete. Ask which costs can be fixed in advance and which remain estimates. Where a service is optional, confirm how you approve it and whether an additional charge can be incurred without a separate decision.

Understand the SENSES starting fee

In Zurich, SENSES charges CHF 70,000 per week for a private villa and one program participant. At that weekly rate, one week is CHF 70,000 and two weeks are CHF 140,000. Each additional participant adds CHF 35,000 per week; two participants total CHF 105,000 for one week. Confirm the Mallorca fee and currency separately. These figures are arithmetic illustrations of the published starting rate, not individual quotations or a promise that every proposed arrangement costs the same.

The SENSES admissions information is the source to check before booking. Ask for the particular program, residence, selected services and participating guests to be named in the proposal. Companion arrangements, external services and the Mallorca yacht option need individual confirmation. Each program participant has an individual health program. In Zurich, the additional participant supplement is CHF 35,000 per week. Children incur no additional accommodation charge; childcare and children’s programs are charged separately.

The SENSES profile explains its private format. Compare it with a resort only after identifying the difference between exclusive residential arrangements and a room within a shared property. A useful financial comparison asks what you are buying and why you need it; it does not treat different delivery models as interchangeable.

Seven items to request in every quotation

First, request the accommodation category and occupancy basis. A suite, villa or exclusive residence can change the total substantially. Confirm whether the room described in the offer is the one being reserved and whether an upgrade is optional or necessary for your party.

Second, ask which meals and beverages are included. Some programs prescribe a particular meal arrangement; others use dining credit or selected restaurants. Establish how dietary requirements are handled and whether an accompanying guest follows the same food plan. Third, identify the number and type of private appointments rather than accepting a broad phrase such as access to experts.

Fourth, clarify investigations and interpretation. An assessment fee, a laboratory charge, a specialist consultation and a written report may be separate items. Fifth, check transfers and off-site transport. Sixth, ask about taxes, service charges and any payment fees. Finally, obtain the terms for continuing contact, reports and follow-up after departure. This final category is easy to overlook because the stay itself attracts most attention.

Compare resort credit with specified services

A credit-based package gives you an allowance to spend under particular rules. It does not necessarily reserve the treatments you want or guarantee that their total fits within the credit. Check eligible services, advance-booking requirements, restrictions and what happens to unused credit. Ask whether different members of your party can share or transfer an allowance.

A specified program lists the services intended for your stay. This makes comparison easier, but it still requires a clear explanation of substitutions and changes. Find out what happens if a session is unavailable, unsuitable after assessment or canceled because you feel unwell. A replacement treatment, a rescheduled appointment and a refund are different outcomes; the terms should explain which applies.

Account for companion and couple arrangements

A companion may share the room without following the program, or may participate in an entirely separate set of services. Ask for both possibilities to be priced. Include meals, activities, transfers and extra rooms in the comparison. A shared stay can be excellent value for your particular goals while still requiring more than one program fee.

If both partners participate, compare their proposals independently as well as together. One person might need more private consultations while the other prefers a lighter schedule. Our guide to planning a retreat as a couple explains the distinction between shared accommodation and individual participation. Price should follow the actual arrangement, not an assumption that a couple must have identical programs.

Deposits, cancellation and changes

Read cancellation terms before choosing a non-refundable flight. Confirm the deposit, payment deadlines, cancellation dates and consequences of leaving early. Ask what happens if the provider’s own suitability review changes the proposed plan after you have paid. Keep the response with the booking documents rather than relying on an informal assurance.

Travel insurance and retreat cancellation terms serve different purposes. Discuss the activities and services you plan to book with an appropriate insurer and ask what is covered. Do not assume that a standard policy covers elective assessments, planned treatments, supplier cancellation or every pre-existing circumstance. Coverage depends on the policy and your individual situation; the retreat cannot establish it for you.

Currency and payment clarity

Keep the provider’s quoted currency visible throughout your comparison. A converted figure can help you plan, but it is not the amount the provider necessarily charges. Ask which currency will be collected, when payment is due and whether your payment provider applies conversion or transaction costs. Use a current conversion when making your own budget rather than relying on an old article or cached search result.

If a company, assistant or family member pays, agree on the invoicing details and who may authorize additional purchases. Payment access does not automatically give a third party access to personal health information. It is useful to separate booking administration, expenditure approval and consent to share records from the beginning.

Judge value against the purpose of the trip

For a spa escape, value may center on comfort, location, treatment access and time together. For a structured retreat, it may depend more on daily guidance and the coherence of the program. For a private assessment stay, individual professional time, coordination and the usefulness of the resulting plan may be central. A single price-per-night measure cannot capture all three.

Write down the services you consider essential and compare the cost of receiving them across two or three suitable proposals. Then consider practical friction: transfers, scheduling, shared facilities and the amount of administration you need to do yourself. This produces a more useful decision than selecting the cheapest headline rate or assuming the most expensive option must provide better health outcomes.

Questions about retreat costs

Are prices on comparison websites final?

Treat them as orientation unless they reproduce a current, clearly specified offer. Dates, occupancy, program scope and availability can change the total. Obtain the provider’s own written quotation before making a commitment and check its validity period.

Is the longest stay the best value?

Only if the additional days serve a purpose you want. Compare what changes between the shorter and longer formats, including appointments and support. Our guide to one week or two helps you assess the program benefit alongside the extra accommodation and travel time.

What is the most useful final budgeting question?

Ask: “What would I reasonably expect to pay in addition to this proposal for the stay we have discussed?” Request examples relevant to your booking. A clear answer exposes assumptions before arrival and gives you a practical basis for deciding what to include, decline or investigate further.
